About the Jazz Festival

The Festival is an annual event hosted in Malawi’s beautiful capital, the leafy Lilongwe and comprises the display and the performance of jazz music in Malawi, with the aim of increasing the appreciation and the enjoyment of jazz music as an art form in the country.

The Festival  seeks to provide a platform that debunks the myth that the music genre, jazz, is somehow an indicator of an upper class in society. Jazz, as an art form, has absorbed a variety of regional, national and local musical cultures.

About the Mchinji Studio and Workshops

In a town in Central West Malawi, a musical gem has emerged between the cedar trees in Kayesa Inn, Mchinji.
Kayesa Inn is where Paliani formed a local studio and workshop space to teach music for both professionalized artists and the local the community. The space is also used in collaboration with the international non-profit organization Music Cross Roads to implement different community led musical projects.
